One of Slovakia's eight regional seats, Trencin in western Slovakia is one of the country's most picturesque towns, with its distinguishing castle dominating the historical centre from its hill top location. Most of the city life clusters around the town square. In actual fact, many argue that Trencin's ‘Skyline' is perhaps Slovakia's most striking created by a picturesque castle above a quaint town square. As the city is also embedded in the Vah river valley, you can find it running along the old town. Due to its charme, the city nowadays attracts a wealth of poets, writers, painters, musicians and other artists that gave the Royal city of Trencin a very warm and welcoming feel.
Regarded as one of the most significant Slovakian monuments Trencin castle will make a lasting impression on you. It can be admired from various angles below or while climbing the winding streets to its main entrance. Once on top of the hill and within the castle boundaries not only will you be able to tour the castle but you can also enjoy the great view that you will have over the city's main square with its 15th century clock tower and the large synagogue that now houses a gallery.
There is plenty to see and do in Trencin but if you also fell like exploring the surrounding areas we can recommend a trip to Trencianske Teplice. It is a still thriving spa resort that was established in the 14th century and is famous for its hot mineral springs and its mud treatments.
