1 DAY - Arrival to Slovakia, accommodation, informal reception

2 DAY - A visit to Orava and town Ruzomberok in Liptov region where you will begin your wooden architecture route adventure.

 

The Church of All Saints in Tvrdosin - is wooden church with late gothics structural elements classified by experts to the 2nd half of the 15th century. In the Orava region the church is considered to be the oldest building monument. Inside are presented componets of the Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque decorations.
The Articular Protestant Church in Lestiny - the interior is decorated with a baroque altar with polychrome woodcuts from the 14th century. The one of the greatest Slovak poets - P. O. Hviezdoslav was christened as a baby in its rooms. At night the accommodation is planned in Ruzomberok town.

 

3 DAY - You will travel to the Upper Liptov region to see The Articular Protestant Church in Svaty Kriz

 

The Articular Protestant Church in Svaty Kriz - the floor plan is in the shape of the cross, built-up area consists of 658 m2, but the effective area is up to 1,150 m2. The church has 12 doors and 72 windows. With the bell tower the church forms a harmonious unit and the whole object length 43 meters. The wooden Baroque altar is preserved of the precedent church and is dating to 1693. Lights also provide a great chandelier, made of Venetian glass from the year 1780. The church was built without a single metal parts and their size is one of the largest wooden building in Europe. During the worship to fit him almost six thousand people.

 

and carry on to the Spis region to visit The Articular Protestant Church of Holy Trinity in Kezmarok.

 

The Articular Protestant Church of Holy Trinity in Kezmarok - the church was attached in 1717 to an older stone sacred building dating to the year 1593, which now embosoms its vestry. Also believers from Germany contributed for the construction. Financially assist the Protestants of northern Europe, Swedish and Danish kings ordered for this purpose to make collections in their countries. This unique wooden building from yew-tree and larch was built without using a single piece of metal. From the artistic poit of view is very valuable cathedral organ with wooden whistle. In 1719 it designed the master Vavrinec Tchaikovsky. On the ground floor and six galleries is the place for over 1500 people. At night the accommodation is planned in Kezmarok town.

 

4 DAY - You will carry on exploring the all Sharish region and visit the completely intact medieval town centre of Bardejov.

There are two major wooden churches here to see - The Church of St. Francis of Assisi in Hervatov, The Church of St. Kozma and Damian in Lukov.


The Church of St. Francis of Assisi in Hervatov - the interior has undergone several changes in the decoration, especially through the Reformation, when some precious reform relics were added, for example, wall paintings from 1665. In 18th century added a section late baroque decorations.It is interesting that over 500-year-old church still serves for the worship and religious ceremonies. Young couples increasingly use to choose it for their wedding ceremony.

The Church of St. Kozma and Damian in Lukov - architectural feature is also extended house-top around the buildings on the basis of vertical columns. The only church in Slovakia with cellarage. The interior decoration of baroque influences predominate.

5 DAY - A visit to two wooden churches in eastern part of Sharish region and town Snina in the north-eastern part of Zemplin region.

 

The Church of Archangel Michael in Ladomirova - the most valuable pieces of the inner decorations include the iconostasis and the altar, which comes from the mid-18th century. The five in-line polychromed wooden architecture is filled with icons, some of them were destroyed in the 2nd World War II. In addition, there are several icons and other sacral objects, inscribed in the list of national cultural monuments. Standing next, the wooden bell tower dates from the 19th century.


The Church of St. Nicholas in Bodruzal - Tserkva St. Nicholas, built in 1658 on the southern slope of the village. Log-house tripartite structure is richly broken shingle roof with three towers arranged according to their hight in cascade sequence to the west. The campus of the temple is surrounded by fences with wooden shingle roof.

6 DAY - We will visit two wooden churches, the first one in the eastern part of Zemplin region and the second one and town Zvolen in upper river Hron region.

 

The Church of St. Nicholas in Ruska Bystra - the three roomed building with amply decorated Baroque iconostasis and altar come from the first half of the 18th century. Due to lack of space is edge icons are located on the walls. Tsar gate (in the middle ikonostas) comes from the 17th century and it consists of the icons of four evangelists and icon of Annunciation.


The Articular Protestant Church in Hronsek - The church has a central floor plan in the form of uneven Cross (longer arm is 23 m, the shorter 18 m). Height is 8 meter. 5 entrance gates leads into the church building, there is 30 windows on the perimeter. The construction is completely of solid oak and red spruce. Inside the church roof recalls the inverted ship shape. There are elements of Scandinavian architecture, distinctive colonnade on the galeries. Curiosity there are benches placed in the theater like way with capacity 1,100 seats. The altar of the church has six interchangeable images, originating from 1771. On the altar is arranged the crucifixe with inscription and the year 1739. Above it are the escutcheons aristocratic families, which promote the evangelical church. The current organ dates from 1764.In early November 2000, visited the church the English Crown Prince Charles.


At night the accommodation is planned in Zvolen town.
